Business Travel News & Updates

Heathrow Ends 100ml Liquid Limit for Hand Luggage

A welcome update: passengers travelling through London Heathrow no longer need to remove liquids or laptops at security, following the full rollout of new CT scanners across all terminals. The upgrade allows liquids in containers of up to two litres to remain in hand luggage, bringing an end to the long-standing 100ml rule introduced in 2006. It’s also a win for sustainability as the change will save millions of single use plastic bags. Heathrow joins Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, and London Gatwick, which have already scrapped the 100ml limit. Travellers should note that rules still vary at other UK airports depending on terminal and scanner availability, so it’s important to check before travelling.

Proposed UK ETA Fee Rise

The UK Government has announced plans to increase the cost of an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from £16 to £20, with timing details yet to be confirmed. An ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK for eligible non-visa nationals and allows multiple visits over two years. From 25th February 2026, travellers who require an ETA but do not have one will not be permitted to board transport to the UK. For more information on the ETA and how it compares to other schemes, check out our guide here.

Engineering Works at Manchester Piccadilly

If you’re travelling through Manchester in February, here’s something to be aware of. Network Rail will be carrying out essential engineering works at Manchester Piccadilly from Saturday 14th to Sunday 22nd February 2026, aimed at improving the long-term reliability of the network. During this period, Platforms 1-12 will be closed, with a reduced service operating from Platforms 13 and 14. As a result, some services will be diverted, amended or replaced by rail replacement buses, including routes to and from Manchester Airport, so you may need to factor in significant extra time for your journey.
