In the recent weeks, we have shared lots of information about returning to travelling and how hotels have adapted to be COVID safe. We’re now creating a series of Q&A style talks with some of our Inntel family as they experience the new normal. Our first Q&A is with Tam Peppiatt, one of our Business Travel Specialists, who stayed at Oulton Hall in Leeds for a relaxing mini-break.

How did you feel before you went?

I felt nervous. I haven’t enjoyed leaving the house to go to the shops and thought this would be as stressful.

How did you feel when you arrived?

Happy, as soon as we walked in it felt safe and near to normal.  We were greeted with a friendly welcome behind a screen and there was alcohol gel on arrival. There was a simple keep right system on entry into reception.  It seemed easy enough!

Was the experience different/better than you expected?

Much better, we  checked in straight away, were given advice on the changes, and how breakfast/dinner now worked.  Instead of a buffet you just ordered to your table for breakfast and were seated further apart, same with their champagne bar.  Both food options were either room service at no extra charge or seated.  Food/drinks came covered on a tray in which we then placed the plates on our table.

The room didn’t have the usual pen/paper or the welcome letter given at check in .  There were Covid guides dotted throughout giving advice like one person in a lift at a time. There was also alcohol gel placed at strategic points.

How did you feel whilst around the hotel – was it different, did you feel on edge or was it ok once you got used to it?

We were made to feel very welcome by all of the staff and all the guests were respectful and polite.  Everyone adapted to this new system with ease, and it was lovely to feel safe and able to be somewhere different with no hassle whatsoever.
